I miss Troy. I really do. It’s silly in a way, because even if I was at home he would have been at work all day and I wouldn’t have seen him anyway! But I kept finding myself thinking of him and wondering what he was doing today.

I had a good day here though. One of the children woke me up at 6.30 to ask me something- I woke up enough to answer them and check the time which is how I know when it was, but I now can’t remember which child it was and what they wanted. I went back to sleep for a bit, and when I got up the kids had all had breakfast and were snuggled up under blankets in the loungeroom.

We went down the street this morning to buy things for lunch. It’s always weird to go down the street here and see what’s changed. I bought Luna a mat to sleep on while we’re here- mum and dad don’t have a small, doggy sized armchair or random blankets flung about their living room, so she’s a bit lost. I figured a fleece rug will give her a place to lie down and will help her settle down.

I was tragically disappointed while I was down the street though- I have really wanted to try the Minion McFlurry from Maccas (yes, I am very mature obviously) and today I decided I would just go and get one for me and each child. Ordered them at their new touchscreen kiosks (which takes forever, all the kids want to do their own orders and have the exact same number of turns at pressing the screen) but when we went to collect them the soft-serve machine was out of order and I couldn’t have one! Which really is a minor disaster, but I was quite put out all the same.

The kids, mum and I all went to the movies this afternoon and saw Inside Out. It was a great movie, but I have to admit I wasn’t expecting it to be quite so deep…I was really thinking it was going to be a lot more light hearted! All the kids liked it, even Jericho who had been pretty cranky on going to see it at all since he had wanted to see Minions instead. I think Soren was quite involved with it though, in all the sad bits he kept leaning over to me and giving me little hugs and pats so that I would hold and pat him. It was very sweet, except he had been eating lollipops and was so sticky!

Jericho is behaving like a crazy thing while we’re here. It’s all silliness and performances. Occasionally hilarious (he does have a certain flair) most mostly just really, really annoying!

Mum gave Emma a top today that Mum bought but that doesn’t fit. It fits Emma instead. No wonder I am feeling so old and sad lately, when my daughter is old enough and big enough that clothes that her adult relatives buy for themselves can be passed along to her.

It’s quite a long drive here to Mum and Dad’s house when you do it by yourself. It went pretty well though- we stopped a couple of times for food/ fuel/ to wake me up a bit, and the kids and the dog were very good. We had music until we stopped for an early lunch in Ballarat, and then the kids watched Despicable Me on the dvd player which lasted most of the rest of the way.

We got here early afternoon, and it’s been pretty low key. Really just hanging out. The kids played outside a little bit, but it was pretty cold so they spent a couple of hours watching a dvd too. I talked to mum a bit, and with dad once he came home from work.

I’m not completely sure what our plans are while we’re here. I might try the movies tomorrow, that would be fun. Maybe we’ll go for a drive to Port Fairy or Halls Gap or something on Wednesday – we’ll have to decide.

Project 365-2015: Day 179

Project 365-2015: Day 179 – Zen Gardening.
We still have the little heap of stones and shells near the plants out by the front door, and I will still sit out there and arrange them when I need a moment of fresh air, sunshine and quiet. There was no sunshine today, but the air was certainly fresh while I built this little rock tower.

Nicholai kicked a goal today! I didn’t get to see it, but I am so happy for him. His team won by 90 points, so it was really all their way today. Nicholai was so pleased by it, it was great.

Troy told me that the ball was marked by another kid from the team on the edge of the goal square, and he kicked it across to Nicholai (who nearly fumbled it) who then got the goal. That’s just…I love his team. I was so completely and utterly and beautifully wrong about him playing football. I was so worried that he’d be picked on and left out of things but it hasn’t been like that at all. And then today that kid gave him the goal (apparently he’d already scored about nine) but once Nicholai kicked it all his team came in and gave him high fives and whacks on the back and all the parents were cheering.

The kids all went over to have a play at Steve and Jean’s this afternoon. Their cousins were there apparently, so they had fun. Troy and I stayed home and had a movie afternoon/evening. We watched Hercules (the version with The Rock, not Kellan) and ate frozen pizza for tea and then we watched Chappie, which we’re still watching. I did some knitting, and we both just kind of hung out. I’m going to miss him while I’m away at mum and dad’s place.

Jericho’s invented a game he’s called ColourBlind, where the hero has to keep all the grey monsters at bay with colours. Interesting choice for a child who is, in fact, colour blind.

Friday

I woke up with barely any voice this morning, which has been fun. Or not.

I went to Soren’s presentation this morning. It was so cute! Hayley explained that she had asked the children what they wanted to share and they each chose something about their work or the classwork to do. So some of them read their poems, a couple of them read out a story, Soren and a couple of others did this play (which was their guided reading book) and some of them showed the yoga exercises they do. They were really good. I also loved that one of the stories they read out was a class one called “Angus’ Greatest Find” about Angus the classroom dog who likes to find things and bring them home, and finally Angus finds a doggy friend and brings her home and that’s his greatest find. Which was very cute anyway, but made even cuter by the fact that the friend dog in the story was Luna, after our Luna.

It was the last day of term today (which was why Soren’s class h, so the kids had early dismissal. I cannot believe that we’re halfway through the year already! My kids all like school and are happy to go, but they were pretty happy to have holidays starting today too.

I dyed the crochet dress yellow today. It looks like sunshine and is adorable! I love dying things because until it has been rinsed and dried you never know exactly how it’s going to turn out. I also dyed half the overalls, I’m going to dye the bottom half blue and hopefully will have a nice green stripe in between where the blue overdyes. I’m really not very confident with that, but we’ll see.

The yarn I ordered came today. It’s green and smells exactly like sheep. I’m going to use it to make a cardigan, and I’m glad it arrived today so I’ll have it to work on next week.

We had tea at Steve and Jean’s tonight. Steve has bought a new phone and ipad and so he needed Troy to set everything up and whatever. It was nice to have tea made and not have to do the cleaning up.

Saturday

It was a long day today. I felt marginally better than yesterday, and could at least talk which was a bonus.

Hockey took us all over the place today- Troy took Emma to play at Heidelberg and I took Jericho to play at Waverly. I took Soren with me, and Nicholai took advantage of his elder status to stay home alone. Neither of the children’s teams won their hockey games, but both of them played well.

The afternoon, once we finally got home from hockey, was okay. Lazy mostly, which suited me. I finished the crocheted dress/top for Skyla and finished the cat-blanket-lovey thing as well. The yarn on that is so big and chunky that the finished product is kind of like it’s been drawn with crayons.
