Days 061 – 080

Project 365-2015: Day 080 – Treats Please!
Luna, sitting up and looking cute and adorable in hopes that she’ll get a treat!

Project 365-2015: Day 079 – Out of the Bush.
Godzilla trying out the plant in his enclosure as a means of disguise. I don’t think it’s going to be all that effective!
However I’d also like to point out the weeny little spider on the grass blade above his head. I totally didn’t mean to get that – I didn’t even know it was there until I looked at the photo on my computer- but how cool is it?!

Project 365-2015: Day 078 – Gathering Clouds.
Waiting for the rain after a hot and humid autumn day.
And I know I’ve been doing more iphone pictures lately, but believe it or not I STILL don’t have an everyday lens. It’s making me so discouraged about this project (and completely ENRAGED with the stupid online store that made me think I would actually get what i ordered in a timely manner!) so basically I’m just doing what I can.

Project 365-2015: Day 077 – Good Morning.
We have a flock of lorikeets that regularly visit our backyard in the mornings, and they’re usually there when I go out to hang out the washing. They’re fun to watch, although they usually fly away pretty soon after I go out, since Luna will chase me out and then run around the base of the tree they’re sitting in, barking furiously until they fly away from her. But I got my camera out there this morning, and caught this one looking quite offended that I was taking his picture while he was eating!

Project 365-2015: Day 076 – The Labours of Hercules.
Well, not quite! But building a library from scratch certainly does seem like a monumental effort.
Our school has never had a real library. There were books in the classrooms for the kids to read, but as a small country school (there were only 38 kids there when we enrolled Nicholai) we were eligible for the MARC van (mobile library) and so a school library just wasn’t practical or necessary.
But seven years on, the school population has ballooned to over 100 and we’re no longer eligible for the MARC van. So a library is a necessity, and through donations and purchases and grants we’ve got a really great start. Except it ALL needs to be catalogued and covered and shelved and it’s not as though this is anyone’s paid job! Unfortunately it’s not a really popular volunteer job either, so getting our library set up completely is slow going.
I love it though. I go in most mornings now and contact books for an hour or two, just trying to catch up to where the cataloguing and labelling has got up to. Luna comes and sleeps on the dog bed I donated to the library (primarily for her, but also for the other school dogs when they’re in there!) and I just listen to music on my phone and contact away. I love it. It’s peaceful and orderly and the books smell so bookish and lovely and I get to alphabetise things. My biggest downfall is reading the books instead of contacting them- yes, reading a single picture book doesn’t take much time but five of them in a row does kind of add up! It’s a good thing I like the job though, because I’ll probably be doing it for the rest of the year.
I should have been a librarian. Why did I not do that?

Project 365-2015: Day 075 – Wishes.
I love taking photos of dandelions. I was doing that today when Jericho appointed himself my photography assistant and decided that the dandelions would be much more interesting if they were in the process of being blown away. A hard one to photograph for me, but I like what we ended up with!

Project 365-2015: Day 074 – Skink
Troy presented us with this cute little skink today. He found it in the garden while he was weeding and I was very impressed that he actually managed to catch it- this skink is so tiny there’s not much of him to grab, and skinks are fast. We all cooed over how sweet and tiny it was, and then I took its photo and the kids held it, and then we released it to go and take its chances in the big world.
(And for size, he’s sitting on my thumb in the photo and I don’t have giant hands or anything. That picture is probably 3 times larger than real life.)

Project 365-2015: Day 073 – Master of the Mudslide.
Jericho is learning about ‘Force and Motion’ at school, and had to do a presentation on a natural force. So he’s doing mudslides, and decided he was going to make a stop-motion animation about them. So here he is, painstakingly moving his little people and clouds and lightning and mud centimetres at a time while Troy stood on a stepladder taking photos (87, in the end) from above.

Project 365-2015: Day 072 – School Pick-up.
This is the view from the school carpark. At least, it’s the view if you’re parking in the correct place in the carpark, something I am usually NOT doing! (Why yes, we have carparking issues at the school, how did you guess?)

Project 365-2015: Day 071 – In Disgrace.
It’s Luna at school again today, sorry. But as you can see there were no pillow pets and giant stuffed tigers to sleep on here! No, sneaky little Luna was discovered digging through children’s schoolbags in search of snacks, so she had to spend the rest of the class leashed to a table leg where she couldn’t get to anything!

Project 365-2015: Day 070 – Smoke.
I saw all this smoke when I was driving to pick the children up from school. It’s been six years since Black Saturday and I still feel myself tensing up when I see smoke like this, even when the fire is as far away and as contained as this one was.

Project 365-2015: day 069 – Pinwheel.
These really are the strangest blooms ever. They grow on the neighbour’s tree and hang over our fence, and I really love having something so bright in the yard.
I still haven’t replaced my lens that broke back on Day 54, and when I’m not flailing round in helpless rage about that (I’ve ordered it, is just hasn’t been delivered!) I’m actually finding the challenge of using only my fixed lens kind of interesting. It’s definitely altering the way I look at things around me and the little things I’m starting to notice.

Project 365-2015: Day 068 – Buddies.
My beautiful old man dog Pedro and my sweetheart little Luna dog! I don’t know how much longer Pedro is going to be around, since he’s thirteen now and his health is deteriorating badly, but he’s been a lovely part of our family and we’re all going to miss him when he’s gone- Luna too.

Project 365-2015: Day 067 – Escape
Godzilla the blue tongued lizard likes to eat snails. This snail does not like to be eaten.

Project 365-2015: Day 066 – Little Traveller.
How cute is that??? Troy found this ladybug for me in the bush just outside the front door, and I love this photo. It just looks like she’s been trudging for a long time and she’s going to be trudging along for a long time yet to get where she’s going.
Except the truth is she didn’t. I pretty much got this photo and then she flew away, so obviously the trudging was just for show.

Project 365-2015: Day 065 – Sparkly.
There was quite a bit of rain today, which was lovely. Lovely to have some cooler weather, lovely for the garden to have some water on it, and lovely to look at when it sits in droplets on the flower petals. Unfortunately these pretty pink flowers are not mine- I really need to plant more things that have flowers.

Project 365-2015: Day 064 – Find the Puppy.
Not too many people are lucky enough to get to take their dogs to work with them, but fortunately for me and my Luna dog I’m one of the ones who do. Every week she comes along to school with me while I do my Indonesian teaching rounds. Apart from a slight tendency to sneakily try and eat snacks out of the students’ bags (and they’ve all learned to zip them up at her arrival!) she’s very good. She sits with the kids while they’re on the mat, and then when they’re at their desks for working she’ll find the cushions or beanbag in every single classroom and curl up for a nap. Today when it was time to go home I went and found her sleeping on the tiger in the grade 2/3s reading corner, and she wasn’t all that pleased to be woken up honestly.

Project 365-2015: Day 063 – Scary Legs.
Another spider photo today, a different type that I’m not sure I’ve seen before. I certainly don’t know what it is. And I have to say, although I love taking photos of spiders, this one totally scared me! It was completely compacted into itself and then when it unfolded its legs it was both much bigger and much faster than I had anticipated! Plus, it’s legs were red, and bright colours on a spider is never a good sign. But it’s still kind of cool and hairy and has really long front legs and a huge abdomen, so it was pretty fun to look at him.

Project 365-2015: Day 062 – Victory.
School swimming carnival today. I liked this picture, although it also made me laugh because this little victory leap that Soren’s doing here came after his team came dead last in a collect-the-corks competition, ha ha ha!

Project 365-2015: Day 061 – A Hint of Autumn.
Balloons over the valley are always a sure sign that autumn is on the way.
