There was a family fun night at the school tonight. The parents club organised it- there were jumping castles, races, giant jenga, donut eating competitions, table tennis, guessing games, basketball, barbecue/ chips/ lemonade/ spiders/ chocolate covered strawberries, and of course the rest of the schoolyard playground equipment. The food all cost one or two dollars and the activities were mostly free, so it was a cheap evening out and the kids had a really good time.
Soren and I kicked Troy and Jericho’s ass in a three-legged race, so that was fun.
Nicholai and Emmanuella stayed home. We figured that it was meant to be a family fun night, and although they are family they would make it significantly less fun if we dragged them along. So they stayed home and made themselves noodles for tea and no doubt stayed glued to their ipads for the entire time we were gone.
Soren got an award at school this morning “in recognition of his outstanding contributions to class discussion, his ability to work at a standard well above his age, but most of all his kind, caring and thoughtful nature, which makes this young gentleman a brilliant friend.” Such a lovely tribute for my Scooby! He really is a lovely child, and he’s settled back into school really well this year.
Jericho has settled in very well too, and seems happier than he was last year. I actually think that his friend leaving the school has contributed to this, because now Jericho is not feeling regularly rejected by this kid saying he’ll play with him and then changing his mind. Instead he’s playing with another boy who actually wants to spend time him, and their friendship is growing in a really good way.
Troy and I are going to watch The Girl With All the Gifts tonight. It’s a dvd I bought in Indonesia, so the quality will be shitty, but I’ve been looking forward to seeing it. I read the book and loved it, and didn’t even know they’d made a movie of it until I saw it in Indonesia. So hopefully it’s decent.
